Sandies are referred to as Sable; a type of cookies or shortbread cookies, Pecan Sandie is the common variety of the cookies. The Keebler Company has registered the name, Sandies like shortbread cookies. these cookies have many names; Pecan Sandies, Wedding cookies, Snowball Cookies, Tea Cookies. These Sandies are too delicious having crumbly, buttery taste best companion of tea or coffee.

 

Preparation of these delectable Pecan Sandies is pretty easy you just need to the dough; mixing of butter and sugar until creamy, stir in all the remaining ingredients along with pecans, chilling the dough is an important step to make or break the cookies, I would recommend at least about 4 hours so make your preparation a day ahead. Yield 4 dozen

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted

1 cup unsalted butter

1/3 cup white sugar

1 cup chopped pecans, (you can substitute with walnut & almonds)

1/4 tsp cinnamon powder

1/4 tsp salt

2 tbsp vanilla

2 tbsp chilled water

3 tbsp powdered sugar (for sprinkling over the cookies)

Directions:


Line the baking tray with parchment paper, there no need to grease the parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

 

In a bowl sift the all-purpose flour, using an electric mixer or hand blender cream the butter and sugar together until smooth and creamy, add in chilled water and vanilla, stir in flour, cinnamon powder, chopped pecans, and salt beat to combine well. 

 

Chilled Rolled Dough

Form the dough into a roll; this method would be easier to make the Sandies because the dough we have made will be crumbly would take time to form the bolls, wrap the dough in the plastic wrap or zip-lock bag and chill the at least 30 minutes or for the best results let the dough chill for about 4 hours.

 

Now take out the dough from the refrigerator and cut the rolled dough into the 1/2 inch thick slices to make the equal-size Sandies, Pecan Sandies works best when chilled, place them 2 inches apart on the ungreased baking tray, 

 

Bake for about 18-20 minutes or until turn golden in color, allow them cool on the wire rack and sprinkle the powdered sugar while still warm. Store them in an airtight container, cookies will last for 3-5 days.

 

Note: 

 

Chilling the dough is important for at least 30 minutes, I would recommend chilling the dough for about
4 hours, do all the preparation a day ahead.

If you are looking for a substitute for pecan, use the walnut, and almond will taste the best.

 

If you want to do some experiment coat the sandies into the melted chocolate and let them chill into the refrigerator will create a different effect and taste too yummy!
